7 Jagan 'loyalist' Cong MLAs rethink resignation

Hyderabad: The hope in YSR Congress seems to be fading in less than 36 hours as at least seven out of the 26 MLAs who had resigned from the assembly protesting the inclusion of late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy's name in the CBI FIR in Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy's illegal assets case seeking to retracing their step.
The seven MLAs got in touch with the Speaker's office on Tuesday and were understood to have requested not to proceed further on their resignations, official sources in the Legislature Secretariat said.
The seven MLAs move has come as a big jolt to the Jagan camp as it has been claiming that some more legislators were ready to quit from the House over the CBI case issue.
The main reason for the Congress MLAs seeking to return to their parent party is the reluctance of Jagan to assure them re-nomination either in by-elections or next assembly elections.
Also, the promised benefits were not delivered to the MLAs, forcing them to do a re-think on their support to Jagan.
The negative feeback from the public on the resignation issue has also forced some of them not to follow through their action.
"In fact, Jagan did not even speak to many of the Congress MLAs after they had put in their papers on Monday. Barring one or two senior MLAs, he (Jagan) has not even bothered to talk to others", one first-time MLA, who did not want to be quoted, said.
The 26 MLAs, who went to Rajiv Knowledge Valley soon after submitting their resignations on Monday to pay homage to the late Chief Minister at his grave, returned to Hyderabad on Tuesday evening and there was a certain disquiet among them.
Jagan is expected to return to Hyderabad on August 30, on conclusion of his current tour of Krishna district, and hold talks with the MLAs and other senior leaders on their future strategy.
But keeping the flock together for a week could be tough task for YSR Congress as the ruling party stepped up efforts to pull back its legislators from the rival camp.
The Chief Minister held talks with over a dozen ministers as well as Deputy Chief Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha on Tuesday and discussed the political developments.
He has entrusted the task of preventing Congress MLAs from jumping onto the Jagan bandwagon to at least eight ministers, particularly in Andhra-Rayalaseema districts.
Kiran Kumar also spoke to several first-time MLAs of the party who previously hob-nobbed with YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and sought to re-assure them that their political future would be secure only in the Congress.
He also met some MLAs of the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party who formally joined the Congress on Monday.
"Please don't get carried away by the promises coming your way (from the Jagan group). Any monetary gains will only be temporary but you have a long political career ahead of you that should be safeguarded," the Chief Minister reportedly tried to counsel the young MLAs.
Congress leaders, right from PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana, allege the Jagan camp was luring their MLAs by paying hefty amounts to destabilise the government.
